Any player who is in the process of negotiating a big, new contract has a strong incentive to reduce the chance they’ll be injured. For such players, skipping voluntary OTAs is a no-brainer. Coaches may huff and puff about “the players that are here,” but everybody understands how this works: if you’re haggling with the team over a big long-term deal Marcus Allen Jersey , you’re not going to be participating in OTAs.But minicamp is a (somewhat) different matter. Players are required to attend. They can be fined if they don’t show up. But in a case like that of Jones, any fines can be waived (or reimbursed) in the language of the new contract; it’s not necessarily a big deal.Should Jones be present at minicamp, it will be a clear sign that contract negotiations are going well; the two sides are likely to be close to a deal. They want results,” Gruden said Monday. “We want to win. I think the players see a lot of things to be confident about, but we know we got to finish football games much better.”The Raiders (0-3) have spent most of this season playing from ahead, holding the lead for nearly two-thirds of the time and trailing for only 22:28 over the first three games. In fact, there hasn’t been a single second played in the first three quarters of any game this season with Oakland behind on the scoreboard.But the fourth quarter has been an utter disaster. The Raiders fell behind the Rams in the opener on the final play of the third quarter and then were outscored 13-0 in the fourth thanks in part to two interceptions by Derek Carr.Oakland then was outscored 10-0 in the fourth quarter in a Week 2 loss at Denver before falling apart late again in Miami on Sunday. The Raiders’ upcoming 48-day trip away from Oakland might count as some adversity, particularly if the team isn’t winning. In any case, Brown and Burfict’s beef seems to be a thing of the past, at least until the pads start popping during live practices. We’ll see if the two ultra-competitive dogs start barking at each other then.

Green appears to be playing Sunday. On the other hand, Green, who was limited on Wednesday with a pelvis injury, was a full participant Thursday. Obviously, this increases the likelihood that he’ll play on Sunday — a welcome update. 3) Joe Mixon is getting closer. Running back Joe Mixon told reporters that his knee feels great and that he could play Sunday if medically cleared. Don’t expect it. Mixon spent practice on the rehab field Thursday, same as Wednesday. Running back Giovani Bernard figures to start and Thomas Rawls, signed last week, could make his debut as the team’s primary backup (though I’d like to see more out of Mark Walton, but I’m not a coach). 4) Center Billy Price shooting for Steelers week.
