TORONTO (AP) — see at Blue Jays spring training this year http://www.diamondbacksfanproshop.com/authentic-zack-greinke-jersey , even though no one expects him to crack the opening day lineup.Still, it won’t be long before Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and his booming bat become lineup fixtures for the rebuilding Blue Jays.Guerrero Jr. was born in Montreal, where his Hall of Fame father starred for the Expos.More than two decades after his dad flashed All-Star form north of the border, the son is set to take a different Canadian city by storm.Signed by Toronto in 2015, Guerrero Jr. turns 20 on March 16. Beefy and broad-shouldered, his stance and explosive swing are almost identical to those of his prodigious dad. Guerrero Jr. has battered baseballs at every level of the minors, flirting with .400 at Double-A last season before a knee injury in June. He returned and rose to Triple-A in July, posting a.381 average with 20 homers and 77 RBI in 91 games between the two levels.A third baseman whose defensive skills lag behind his bat, Guerrero’s big league arrival will likely wait a few weeks while the Blue Jaysdelay starting his service time long enough to guarantee a seventh season of club control before free agency. For now, Guerrero Jr. will only join his future teammates in spring exhibitions, giving everyone a glimpse of what’s to come.NEW LOOKToronto’s changes begin with rookie manager Charlie Montoyo, who left his job as Tampa Bay bench coach to replace John Gibbons. After dealing veterans J.A. Happ and Josh Donaldson last summer, the Blue Jays continued to shed high-priced stars this offseason. In December, Toronto released oft-injured shortstop Troy Tulowitzki http://www.diamondbacksfanproshop.com/authentic-zack-greinke-jersey , who had $38 million left on his contract. In January, the Jays traded catcher Russell Martin to the Dodgers, sending along more than $16 million of Martin’s $20 millionsalary. New faces include workhorse infielder Freddy Galvis, right-handers Matt Shoemaker and David Phelps and left-hander Clayton Richard.ROOKIES TO WATCHWith Martin gone, Toronto will make one of two rookies its primary catcher. Both Danny Jansen and Reese McGuire are 23 years old as camp opens. Each debuted last season, with Jansen arriving one month after playing in the All Star Futures game, and McGuire getting a brief cameo in September. Whoever doesn’t win the starting job will likely go to Triple-A Buffalo. Veteran Luke Maile is Toronto’s projected backup.THEY’RE SETMiddle infield. Besides dumping Tulo, the Blue Jays lost two versatile infielders this offseason, trading Aledmys Diaz to Houston and parting ways with Yangervis Solarte. Even so, they’re still well-stocked with infielders, having added the sure-handed Galvis to a group including prospect Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Devon Travis, Richard Urena, and Brandon Drury. Roles for these players remain unclear as camp begins http://www.diamondbacksfanproshop.com/authentic-zack-greinke-jersey , but the Blue Jays don’t lack options.THEY’RE NOTStarting pitching.Right-handers Aaron Sanchez and Marcus Stroman give Toronto two potential horses at the top of the rotation, but both are coming off unproductive, injury-marred seasons. Hopes are high for left-hander Ryan Borucki, who posted an impressive 3.87 ERA in 17 starts as a rookie, but there will likely be sophomore bumps. While Shoemaker and Richard provide veteran depth, the starting staff doesn’t inspire confidence.ON DECKThe Blue Jays will keep shopping for rotation and bullpen help throughout spring training, looking to add players on major and minor league deals. There’s also the possibility Toronto trades from its position player surplus, or deals a veteran such as Stroman, in exchange for young arms. Toronto begins the regular season at home to Detroit on March 28. FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Miguel Sano walked into the Minnesota Twins‘ clubhouse just before 8 a.m., looking trimmed down in rainbow sneakers and a black sweat suit.“You look good,” said catcher Jason Castro, a sentiment echoed by teammates between hugs and handshakes with the 25-year-old slugger.A slimmer Sano is a promising sign for Minnesota. He struggled with his weight last season following offseason surgery on his left shin and was demoted to Class A Fort Myers in mid-June after hitting .203 over 37 games. He finished the year at .199 with 13 homers in 71 games.“I worked really hard and I’ve been doing a lot of yoga and a lot of agility stuff and a lot of lifting, so I feel a lot different from last year Andrew Chafin Jersey ,” Sano said. “I feel like this year can be a lot different for everybody.”One of Sano’s first stops Sunday was expected to be the trainer’s room. He arrived to camp with a cut on his lower right leg that he suffered near the end of the Dominican winter ball season.“Otherwise, besides that, he looks great,” Twins rookie manager Rocco Baldelli said. “As good or better as we could have hoped coming into camp.”Sano started offseason workouts in late October, changing up his diet and his attitude after the worst season of his pro career. Many of his exercises were football-inspired, with an emphasis on flexibility. He also brought on his sister as a nutritionist — she also plans to live with him in Minnesota this season. He wasn’t sure exactly how much weight he’d lost, but expected it was enough to make a difference on the field.“New year, 2019, everything’s in the past,” he said. “The new Miguel Sano. We’ve got a great team. We look at the positive stuff. The negative we leave in the past.”In 2017, Sano was one of the AL’s big sluggers. He made his first All-Star team and finished with a .264 average, 28 home runs and 77 RBIs in 114 games. That came after hitting 25 homers in 2016 and 18 as a rookie in ’15, which earned him third in the AL’s rookie of the year voting.“He looks good,” said new teammate Nelson Cruz Alex Avila Jersey , who also reported Sunday. The power hitter signed a $14.3-million, one-year free agent deal that comes with a $12-millon club option, leaving Seattle after four years during the offseason. The Twins are hoping the pair can add some pop to a lineup that finished 12th in the AL in homers last season. The 38-year-old Cruz has been one of the game’s top power hitters the past five seasons, belting at least 37 homers each year.“We talked a lot,” Cruz said of Sano. “He wanted to get me here.”Cruz expects to spend time chatting with Sano during the season.“Definitely. We’re 24-7 baseball, so, definitely, we’ll talk about the situation of the game, not only him but the coaches, too,” he said. “We’re here to learn, myself, too.”NOTES: Twins former stars Rod Carew and Tony Oliva were in the clubhouse. … Full-squad workouts begin Monday morning.
